Discovering Table Rock Lake: Our Favorite Fishing & Exploration Spots
You don’t need a boat to enjoy fantastic fishing around Table Rock Lake. Some of our go-to spots offer incredible access and added family fun.
- The Dewey Short Visitor Center: A Scenic & Educational Stop Nestled along the shores of Table Rock Lake, the Dewey Short Visitor Center is an absolute gem, and best of all, admission is free! You’ll be immediately struck by the gorgeous views through its expansive, wall-to-wall glass windows and from its stunning outdoor decks. It’s a fantastic spot to simply take in the immense beauty of the lake and the Ozark Mountains.
Beyond the breathtaking scenery, the visitor center offers an engaging children’s activity space and a small, informative museum that beautifully showcases the history of Table Rock Lake and the vital role of the Table Rock Dam. Our family especially loves to wander along the Table Rock Lakeshore Trail that originates right at the visitor center. This easy, scenic walk often leads to a perfect, quiet spot to stop and fish from the bank. Plus, you’ll find plenty of picnic tables scattered along the trail, making it an ideal location for an afternoon lunch spot with picturesque lake views. It’s a wonderful blend of education, nature, and relaxation. - Long Creek Marina: Your Gateway to Lake Adventure Another prime location we absolutely adore for fishing and recreation is Long Creek Marina, conveniently located just minutes from CedarWood Farmstead. This vibrant hub on Table Rock Lake offers so much more than just a place to cast your line. While there are plenty of spots to fish directly from the marina area, you can also dive into a wide array of recreational activities.
The Marina offers boat rentals (from pontoons to ski boats!), ski school for those looking to glide across the water, and unique experiences like bowfishing. For land lovers, there are hiking trails and abundant opportunities for wildlife viewing. The newly renovated Marina Store is perfectly equipped with everything you could need – from boating supplies and fishing tackle to a wide selection of snacks and beverages. And here’s some exciting news for summer visitors: the Marina is opening a brand-new swimming beach this season, promising even more fun in the sun! It’s truly a one-stop shop for all your Table Rock Lake adventures. - Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery: An Educational & Fun Experience If your family has a deep love for fishing, or just a curiosity about aquatic life, a visit to the Shepherd of the Hills Fish Hatchery is a must-do. This fantastic facility includes a free conservation center where you can observe various types of local fish on display. Our kids especially get a kick out of walking through and feeding the fish – it’s always a highlight!
Beyond the hatchery itself, you’ll find well-maintained trails available for hiking and wildlife viewing in the surrounding natural areas. Best of all, fishing access is provided right near the hatchery, offering another convenient spot to try your luck. It’s an overall fun, educational, and engaging stop for the entire family that connects you with the vital role of conservation in the Ozarks.
